Your name is called by the speaker, a former singer and composer of German schlagers, you hear him say “the track is clear” or half of the time in Schwiizerdütsch “die bahn ist frei”. Then you wait for the green light and sprint with spiked shoes as fast as you can and as long as you dare. When you feel the bob sleigh is slipping away from you it’s time to jump in and focus on the 19 corners you painstakingly have memorised. Ahead is 1722 meters of pure, hard ice, built up by hand every year, for around 1minute and 15 seconds you slide inside the world’s greatest ice sculpture at 125 km/h.
